Voted Portland's Best Gallery 2008 in the Portland Phoenix poll!!

Whitney Art Works was opened in 1999 in Greenport, a small town on eastern Long Island, New York. The gallery was re-located to Portland, Maine in the fall of 2003.

In the course of 8 years in Portland, Peter and Deborah Whitney converted 3 spaces for the gallery - 142 High Street, 45 York Street, and 492 Congress Street. All of these venues became a hub on First Friday nights!
There was also a window gallery at Walker Terrace.

Portland's Leader in Contemporary Art...

Since 1999, curator Deb Whitney was committed to having Whitney Art Works serve as a supportive commercial venue for the exhibition of works of both emerging and established contemporary artists. Exhibitions featured the work of dozens of painters, photographers, printmakers, and sculptors. A wide spectrum of visual arts were exhibited, as well as a host of events including music, performance, and the presentation of the written word.
