My current work is a series of paintings in development that is part of an ongoing interest that I have with suburbia and its' proliferation. I use recognizable suburban icons such as swimming pools, cars, houses, sprinklers, etc., to create an environment that is familiar to all of us. I also introduce the human figure as a way of connecting us to this place. I use multi-panels as well as traditional rectangular canvases -- sometimes civided into parts as a way of evoking multiple ideas on the subject.
Richard Hutchins holds a BFA from Maine College of Art. He lives and works in Portland, Maine .
